Wrist pain is near-and-dear to my heart since it initiated my
fascination and career as a Prolotherapy doctor in Los Angeles, California.
Many years ago I was staying with my
friend, John-Roger in Santa Barbara for his annual "Founder's Dinner".
Earlier that day, we played golf at Sand Piper, and on one shot I hit the
ground with my club, thereby hyperextending my wrist joints.
Wrist pain was
no stranger to me after years of gymnastics, tennis, skiing, golfing,
surfing, weight lifting, and a myriad of other sports. But this time was
different. The pain mounted as the night went on. I avoided a "deadly
cortisone shot" offered by my orthopedic surgeon friends, and surgery was
out of the question.
After months of exquisite wrist pain, I was at a medical conference,
and was offered a "sugar shot" (Prolotherapy injection) into my wrist.
As a last
resort to my wrist pain, I agreed, and after 24 hours of minor stiffness, my wrist
was 50% better.
I then injected my own wrist a few more times about a week
apart, and my wrist pain was almost completely healed, and ready for all sports.
Throughout the years, I have injured my wrist on the golf
course when hitting a "fat" shot. I again have injected my wrist, and each
time have felt better the next day. Not everyone heals as fast as I do, but
wrists typically heal in one of two Prolotherapy treatments.

Prolotherapy Is Often Used With Golfers
Suffering
From Wrist Pain
Sometimes it takes more. I had a collegiate golfer ready to join the
pro-tour come to me with a triangular fibrocartilage tear in his wrist from
hitting too many golf balls. This was diagnosed by MRI requested by his
orthopedic surgeon.
I treated him with Prolotherapy on many occasions with
increasing relief.
I didn't hear from him until one day when he called from
his cell phone. "Dr. Darrow, I am at the golf course, and I just played
my first round of golf pain free. My surgeon got another MRI and said this
was the first injury of this type that he had seen heal."
So you know, I am hoping to
be the first Prolotherapy doctor on the tour.
All the best towards living pain free!
